25 min 4 Easy

Ingredients

  • ready-made tart shells4 small
  • ripe pears, diced2
  • egg1
  • egg yolk1
  • heavy cream1/2 cup
  • milk1/4 cup
  • white miso paste1 tbsp
  • honey2 tbsp
  • vanilla extract1 tsp
  • ground cinnamon1/4 tsp

Method

  1. 1Heat the oven to 375°F and place the tart shells on a baking tray.
  2. 2Divide the diced pears among the shells.
  3. 3Whisk egg, yolk, cream, milk, miso, honey, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. 4Carefully pour the custard over the pears without overfilling.
  5. 5Bake until the custard is just set with a slight wobble in the center, about 18 to 22 minutes.
  6. 6Cool for 10 minutes before serving so the custard finishes setting.
  7. 7Serve warm or chilled with a tiny extra drizzle of honey if desired.

Tips

  • Taste the custard before baking; the miso should read as savory depth, not saltiness.
  • Use pears that are ripe but still firm so they hold their shape.
