Five-Spice Pear and Tofu Lettuce Boats

Ingredients

  • firm tofu, crumbled14 oz
  • pear, diced small1 large
  • butter lettuce leaves12
  • carrot, finely shredded1 medium
  • fresh mint, chopped1/4 cup
  • fresh cilantro, chopped1/4 cup
  • soy sauce2 tablespoons
  • lime juice2 tablespoons
  • toasted sesame oil1 tablespoon
  • five-spice powder1 teaspoon
  • peanuts, chopped1/3 cup

Method

  1. 1Whisk soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, and five-spice powder into a quick dressing.
  2. 2Warm a skillet over medium heat and sauté the crumbled tofu until hot and lightly browned.
  3. 3Fold the pear and carrot into the tofu just long enough to warm through.
  4. 4Stir in most of the herbs and half the peanuts, then taste and adjust for salt or acidity.
  5. 5Arrange lettuce leaves on a platter and spoon the filling into each cup.
  6. 6Finish with the remaining herbs and peanuts, and serve immediately.

Tips

  • Dice the pear finely so it blends into the savory filling without overwhelming each bite.
  • Keep the lettuce very cold for the crispest texture.
