Cocoa-Black Sesame Snaps with Citrus Glaze

Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour1 cup

  • baking soda1/2 tsp

  • butter, softened1/3 cup
  • granulated sugar1/2 cup
  • egg yolk1 large
  • black sesame seeds2 tbsp
  • orange zest1 tsp
  • orange juice2 tbsp
  • powdered sugar1/3 cup

Method

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment.
  2. 2Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. 3Beat the butter and granulated sugar until creamy, then mix in the egg yolk and orange zest.
  4. 4Add the dry ingredients and sesame seeds, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  5. 5Scoop small mounds onto the trays and flatten them very thin with damp fingertips.
  6. 6Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until set and crisp at the edges, then cool completely.
  7. 7Whisk orange juice with powdered sugar and drizzle lightly over the cookies.

  • Bake these until just set; they crisp more as they cool.
  • If the dough feels sticky, chill it for 10 minutes before shaping.
